The Sino-Dutch Joint Laboratory of Materials for Civil Engineering was established on 23 December 2013 between MicroLab (Delft University of Technology) and Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Durability for Marine Civil Engineering (Shenzhen University). The aim of The Joint Laboratory is to promote inter-university cooperation in science and technology, in which framework research and education activities are involved, as a result, the innovation capacities of both side are significantly enhanced. The Joint Laboratory officially recognized by the Department of Education of Guangdong in the beginning of 2015 (2014KGJHZ011) and her opening ceremony was successfully held on 9 April 2016. So far, several research programs are carried out in the Joint Lab, among which there is a key international cooperation research project funded by NSF of China,Up to now, three PhD programs have been carried out and a number of papers and patents were published and obtained, respectively. Several international workshops and symposiums were held and very recently, a new RILEM technical committee (Self-healing concrete – its evaluation and efficiency) was successfully formulated by the joint lab.

Microlab is an independent laboratory of Delft University of Technology, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geoscience, and is also an important part of Delft University of Technology Materials Center (DCMat) providing testing and numerical analysis support in many fields; especially in the microstructure evolution, organizational structure formation in materials performance has played indispensable role. Microlab is an international leader in the research of self-healing cementitious materials and holds the prestigious position among the various international scientific organizations.
